Here & Queer: Ellen DeGeneres marries girlfriend!
Ellen DeGeneres, host of the enormously popular daytime talk show (aptly named “The Ellen DeGeneres Show”), just married her longtime girlfriend of four years, Portia de Rossi (of “Arrested Development” fame), in an intimate ceremony attended by 19 close friends at their home in L.A.
The couple have been open about their sexual orientation for several years now, and have appeared together at many red carpet events over the past four years. DeGeneres, at 50, says she hardly feels an age gap at all with De Rossi, 35, despite the latter being fifteen years her junior.
DeGeneres and De Rossi finally tied the knot in California, which they were able to do thanks to the California Supreme Court’s ruling calling the ban on gay marriage unconstitutional.
DeGeneres is essentially the first lesbian celebrity whom has a large following among many different Americans, and her getting married is something that can’t just be “undone” like Mike Huckabee would want to happen. The Queers are Here, Huckabee. Get used to it already. It’s the new milenium for Christ’s sake.
