Pakistani President faces impeachment
Pakistani President Perez Musharraf faces impeachment after the current parliamentary alliance between the Pakistan Muslim League and the Pakistan People’s Party decided that Musharraf’s reign has become dictatorial.
Last November, President Musharraf fired sixty judges whom he thought might be political opponents, arrested several university professors, and imposed temporary martial law in Pakistan. This sparked international outrage, but Musharraf claimed that his country was on the brink of civil war and pointed out that Lincoln suspended habeas corpus during the American Civil War.
Musharraf’s popularity ratings in Pakistan have justifiably dropped considerably since November, and the current two ruling parliamentary powers have decided to put aside their differences and attempt to impeach Musharraf.
Yet the parliamentary alliance’s plan has a flaw…(find out tomorrow!)
