Obama picks Clinton as VP
Wouldn’t that be a wonderful headline? From the beginning, pundits have pondered the Clinton/Obama ticket, and later began to consider the Obama/Clinton ticket. Now, with the drawn out nomination process drawn to a close, some pundits say that Clinton’s negative campaigning has produced such antagonism that Obama cannot and will not choose her as his VP.
I disagree. I believe that nominating Clinton as his VP would be Obama’s best hope to unify the Democratic party and prevent defectors from joining “McSame as Bush.”
Though Hillary Clinton’s dirty tactics toward the end evoked the bitterness of all Americans toward the Karl Rove era, Clinton still has strong support among middle class women, who see Obama as another smug, charismatic man lying his way into office. Many Americans have grown so cynical that they cannot believe Obama’s message for hope and think he will not be able to pass legislation through the next Congress.
With Clinton as VP, all worries would disappear. If she wields evenĀ half as much power as Cheney does she will still have an incredible influence on the direction America will be headed over the next four (but hopefully eight) years. She will easily convince Congress to pass whatever legislation Obama suggests. The Obama/Clinton White House would have the actions of Clinton backing the idealistic words of Obama.
